It reads your letter, whatever your city calls it (comment letter, plan check letter, correction notice, plan review comments), extracts every comment, and checks each one against the state and municipal code your city adopted, and against your own drawings. Who builds it

Behind commentletter.com is Ichi Plan, Inc., the company behind Ichi, an AI platform for building-code compliance used by jurisdictions, third-party plan review firms, design teams and contractors. Ichi holds the adopted codes, reads construction documents at full length, and cites the exact section and the exact spot in a file for every claim it makes.

This product is that engine, pointed at one job. Every improvement to how Ichi reads a code book or a plan set shows up here the same day. The product itself is deliberately small: a place to drop a letter, a report, a chat, and an export.

We are based in California, and most letters we see today come from California cities. The engine reads any US jurisdiction whose code we hold; when a letter arrives from a city we do not yet cover, the report says so instead of guessing.

How a run works

    Read

    The AI agent reads the letter page by page, together with every drawing, calculation and report you add. Drop the whole submittal package: the more it can read, the more precise each response.

  2. 02

    Extract

    Every numbered comment becomes a row, in the letter's own numbering and sections. The reviewed-documents list and the project data are kept as context, never billed as comments.

  3. 03

    Locate the code

    From the letterhead and permit number, the run picks the jurisdiction and its adopted code group: the state code, the year edition, and the municipal amendments where we hold them.

  4. 04

    Check and draft

    Each comment is checked against that code and against your sheets. The result is a drafted response, a verdict on whether the comment is a real deficiency, and an action plan naming what to change and where.

  5. 05

    Hand it over

    You read the first page free. After one payment, the report is your team's tracker: assign comments, tick them off, ask the chat, and export the responses into your original Word letter.

What it costs

The price depends on the letter, and we quote it only after the comments are counted. The first 6 comments are free to read in full — the first one, on a letter of 6 or fewer. One payment unlocks the rest of that letter, forever.

What it is not

It is not professional advice, and it does not replace the architect or engineer of record. Every response is a draft with its evidence attached: the code section, the sheet, the reasoning. A licensed professional on your project should read the structural, fire and accessibility items before they go to the city.

It is not a general chatbot. A general model answers from memory and truncates long files. This engine reads the whole plan set, picks your city's adopted code edition, and links every claim to a section and a sheet, which is the difference between a response that sounds right and one the plan checker can approve.

How your project stays private

Every upload creates its own isolated project. Nothing from one run is visible to another, and no one at the company opens a run unless you ask us to.

The report lives at a link, and the link is the only key. Its identifier is a random 128-bit value generated when the run starts; it cannot be guessed, listed, or counted up to. Report pages tell every search engine and crawler not to index, cache or preview them, and the page never sends its address on to another site when you click a link inside it. We never share a link with anyone.

You may share the link yourself, with the people on your team who make the drawing changes; that is what the tracker is for. From then on, who holds the link is your call, so treat it like any other document of the project.

Your files are never used to train AI models, ours or our providers'. That is in Ichi's contracts, not just on this page. We delete a run on request; the details are in the privacy notice.
